August 2 James 1:26-27
26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
This is what I am preaching on over the next couple of weeks so you can listen to the podcasts or join us on Sunday mornings at the Carmike 10.
But until then I have some questions to consider. Please post your comments and let me know what you think.
What do you think of when you hear the word “religion?”
What images come to mind when you hear “polluted by the world?”
What have you found to be helpful in keeping a tight rein on your tongue?
What is authentic religion?

I found the "un-christian" allusions today to be right on the mark...unfortunately, and I may be condemned for this, I couldn't help but think of Jefferson and some things I heard there. How easy it is to fall into the "this is what christianity is" frame of mind. Of course, I was one of the people saying the stuff at Jefferson...but I guess as long as we continue to grow and can see things. Of course, there I am being judgemental.

Our walk with Christ is a process - a growth toward being more and more like Christ. I was told the other day that comparing ourselves to others is always a losing game - if we see ourselves as better than others - then we face "pride" - if we see ourselves as less than others then we face discontentment. When compare ourselves with Christ we see our need for God.
Patrick -
Once again I see so much from what you say. Comparing ourselves to Christ is the only way to stay true to what e has for us...to become more like Christ.
Thanks.
